Jerry Jones and crew got their first look at the newest members of the Dallas Cowboys this weekend.  Twenty five rookies and first year players took part in the annual rookie mini-camp at Valley Ranch, and several of them caught the attention of many.

First round selection Felix Jones looked shifty and explosive, which is exactly what the Cowboys knew they were getting when they drafted him 22nd overall.  He looks like he will definitely give the ‘boys that “wow” that Jerry Jones was so desperately craving.

Felix wasn’t the only rookie to catch the owner’s eye.  Undrafted rookie wide receiver Danny Amendola from Texas Tech, who was signed quickly after the draft, looked spectacular in the drills.  Although some of the veteran wide receivers were dropping passes, Amendola didn’t let one get out of his reach. Jerry Jones was impressed, to say the least.

"One that didn't drop a ball was the boy from Texas Tech,” Jones said.  “"He really runs routes well and he's got that quickness.  He will be able to separate in the NFL. Of course a smaller, quicker guy has to separate to make a team and be productive."

Amendola caught 109 passes for 1,245 yards and six TD’s his senior year at Texas Tech, and quickly drew comparisions to Texas Tech alum Wes Welker.  He uses his quickness and ability to create seperations from defensive backs to make up for his size (5’11”, 183).  First round selection Mike Jenkins had trouble covering Amendola on more than one occasion during the camp.  He was happy with his weekend performance.

"You can always work on things.  But today felt pretty good for the first day, getting acclimated with the offense and the routes to run. It was fun," Amendola said.

Jerry Jones was also pleased with second round pick Martellus Bennett, who showed soft hands and great catching ability over the weekend, and he also looked spectacular in running his routes.

Quick Notes
Troy Aikman was one of several members to join this years college football hall of fame class…  Emmitt Smith was present at the camp, sharing tips with the running backs…  Wade Phillips said Dave Campo  is doing a great job with coaching the secondary…  LB Bobby Carpenter has moved position again, going from one inside linebacker spot to the other side, where he will try to fill the gap the Cowboys created by trading away Akin Ayodele.
